Danny Sculthorpe spent 17 years in professional rugby league — Wigan Warriors, Castleford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Widnes. 300+ career appearances. 8 England caps. England tour captain to South Africa. And in 2010, the year his career ended and his close friend Terry Newton died by suicide, he attempted suicide himself.
He has talked about that publicly, in dressing rooms, at sports conferences and to performance teams across the UK — because that honesty is the only thing that actually gets through to sporting audiences.
